Indore: 12 killed, 20 rescued after temple floor collapses on Ram Navami, rescue operation over

 INDORE (Madhya Pradesh):At least 12 died after more than 30 people have fallen into a 40 feet deep stepwell  at Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The rescue team have saved 20 people. Indore Collector Ilaiah Raja said- 'There will be a judicial inquiry into the matter. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan  has announced financial assistance for the relatives of the deceased and the injured. Officials said,4-4 lakh will be given to the families of the deceased while financial assistance of Rs 50,000 will be given to 20 injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place during the Havan at Sneh Nagar located on Sapna Sangeeta Road. Due to Kanya Pujan, there was a heavy crowd in the temple. More than 30 people were sitting on the terrace of the stepwell. The roof of the temple caved in due to heavy footafall. The temple is about 60 years old.

 

 According to reports,construction and excavation work was going on in the temple premises. Due to the construction work in the temple premises, there was a possibility of collapse of the floor due to sinking of the wall of the well. Apart from this, some people also said that the well is hollow due to presence of  rats. But, so far no official has given a statement regarding the cause of the accident.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given instructions to speed up the rescue operation after discussing with the Indore collector and Indore commissioner over the phone. The Chief Minister's Office is in constant touch with the Indore district administration. Top officers of Indore police, top officers of district administration are present at the spot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter that he is deeply hurt by the incident in Indore. He spoke to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and inquired about the situation. The state government is moving fast in the rescue and relief work. “My prayers are with all those affected and their families”,Modi said.
