Kerala topped in the financial year 2022-23 in terms of getting GI tag

New Delhi, Apr 5, (Fast Mail News):-- Kerala has got Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the maximum number of products in the country. Kerala has topped among the states to get GI tag status for the highest number of products during the financial year 2022-23.

 

According to the data released on Wednesday by the GI Registry, six products from Kerala have got GI tag. The registry informed that Attappady Attucombu Avara, Attappady Thuvara, Onattukara Ellu, Kanthalur-Vattavada Veluthulli and Kodungallur Pottuvellari in Kerala have been given GI status.

 

According to the data released by the Registry, Mithila Makhana of Bihar, White Onion of Alibaug, Tandoor Red Gram of Maharashtra, Raktse Carpo Apricot of Ladakh, Gamosa (Gamcha) of Assam have also been given GI status. Apart from these, the locally produced Brandy de Jerez of Spain and Provolone Valpadan (a kind of cheese/paneer) from Italy have also received this honour.

 

GI tag status is mainly given to handicrafts and industrial goods for any agricultural, natural or manufactured product produced in a particular geographical area. Earlier, during the financial year 2021-22, a total of 50 products from domestic and foreign markets had received GI tags, out of which the maximum GI tag was given to seven products from Uttar Pradesh.
