Mughal Garden renamed as Amrit Udyan

NEW DELHI:Central government on Saturday changed the name of Mughal Garden located at Rashtrapati Bhavan to Amrit Udhyan (Amrit Udhyan). Keeping in mind the theme of 'Amrit Mahotsav' to mark the completion of 75 years of India's independence, the central government has renamed Mughal Garden as Amrit Udyan.

President Draupadi Murmu's Deputy Press Secretary Navika Gupta said, 'President Draupadi Murmu has named Rashtrapati Bhavan Udyan Amrit Udyan on the occasion of 75 years of Independence. Amrit Udhyan will be inaugurated on Sunday) by President Draupadi Murmu and will remain open for two months from January 31 to March 26.

However, the Rashtrapati Bhavan website mentions both the names – Mughal Garden and Amrit Udyan. Amrit Udyan, spread over 15 acres, has often been described as the soul of the Presidential Palace, says the website.

Amrit Udyan located at Rashtrapati Bhavan is a major attraction for tourists. Here you get glimpses of both British and Mughal gardens. Edwin Lutyens first studied gardens around the world to create it. It took about a year to plant trees in this garden.
