Opposition MPs protest in Parliament premises over SIR, demand discussion in House
The opposition MPs gathered near the Makar Dwar of the Parliament House to hold the protest.
The demonstration was attended by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, DMK leader T.R. Baalu, and several other opposition MPs.
Opposition members had created an uproar in the Lok Sabha on Monday over the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, which disrupted the proceedings of the House.
Opposition parties had raised this demand in the all-party meeting on Sunday and in the meetings of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of both Houses that a discussion should be held during this session on comprehensive electoral reforms, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
The Winter Session of Parliament began on Monday and will conclude on December 19.
