PM's commitment to at least four Fundamental Duties is clearly doubtful: Congress

 (Fast Mail):-- Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Wednessday said that the Prime Minister’s commitment to at least four Fundamental Duties is “clearly doubtful”, including the duty to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions.

The main opposition party made this attack at a time when Prime Minister Modi, on Wednesday, urged citizens to fulfil their constitutional duties, stating that these are the foundation of a strong democracy,Jairam Ramesh wrote on X: "Part IV-A of the Constitution, Article 51-A, is related to Fundamental Duties and eleven of them are listed. But is the Prime Minister fulfilling his Fundamental Duties as a citizen and leader?"

He claimed, "There are at least four Fundamental Duties towards which the Prime Minister’s commitment is clearly doubtful. These duties are:To abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, 

To cherish and follow the noble ideals that inspired our national struggle for freedom, 

 

 To promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities, and 

To develop scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform."

In his Constitution Day message to citizens’ letter, the Prime Minister also emphasised the responsibility of strengthening democracy by exercising the right to vote and suggested that schools and colleges celebrate Constitution Day by honouring those who are becoming voters for the first time on turning 18.Modi recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s idea that rights are obtained only through the performance of duties.
