Dhenkanal youth hacked to death over sand business dispute

The enmity on the sand business is said to be the cause of the murder, according to police.

According to police,Maheswar Behera,32 was sitting at the school veranda of Karigar sahi last night.At around 11.30pm last night around 14 miscreants armed with lathis and pistol coming in a motorcycle and attacked him. They fired shots by which Maheswar sustained injury on neck. While he was fleeing the attackers caught him and stoned over his body mercilessly which caused bleeding and the death.

After the incident, the miscreants fled and the family members rushed the injured Maheswar to Dhenkanal DHH where doctor received him dead.

The additional SP Suryamani Pradhan hoped that the remaining accused will be nabbed very soon. He said dispute over sand supply  between them was the reason of the enmity and follow up murder.

Meanwhile, residents of Karigar Sahi,resorted to road blockade at Sasan chhak in the town demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and payment of compensation. The blockade was called off after the intervention of police and administrative authorities. A sum of rupees 20,000  was provided from the district red cross to the victim’s family.
