Rungta Steel Mishap: Criminal cases will be registered against Rungta Steel authorities

 DHENKANAL: Cases under Factories Act,1948 against the factory manager and the occupier of Rungta Steel plant will be registered in a month or two in connection with the plant mishap yesterday killing two workers and injuring another two.This was stated by the Assistant Director of Factories and Boiler Puspamitra Jena.

She said her department has swung into action following the mishap and conducting vigorous investigation into the incident. She also said that  the Direct reduced iron(DRI)  Kiln no.8 section of the Steel plant has been stopped for operation   till the further orders. She also informed that two injured workers Naba Samanta,40 and Amulya Bora,30 who were going treatment in Aswini hospital are in a good condition.She refused to say where the lapse was there that  caused the accident stating that the investigation is on.Jena had rushed to the plant yesterday and also today.

In another development,two groups of workers clashed today inside the plant premises where seven of them were injured .They were rushed to local Samal Care hospital for treatment.

Hindol SDPO Deepak Jena said ,today some local workers opposed other outside workers for coming to works as an accident has taken place.The other group protest and tension flared up leading to clashes between them.How ever,he said,police intervened and brought the situation under control stating  the plant is running as usually.

 

 The SDPO also added that a criminal case has been registered in Balimi police station in connection with the fatal mishap that occurred yesterday.

On Monday,an accident occurred in project Direct reduced iron(DRI) below the Kiln no. 8.There was a base platform in that area at the height of 10 meters where contractual  workers were working.Suddenly due to low quality work  the platform collapsed killing two on the spot and two seriously injured.

This incident triggered tension around the local villages who came in large numbers and locked the gate leading to agitation. They withdrew the agitation following the assurance of 20 lakh compensation to each and job to their families.

Rungta PRO Ajay Das said it was decided to pay rupees 20 lakhs to each of the victim’s family.He said there is no internal inquiry into the incident as state government is doing the same.
