2025 marked by ‘loot and misgovernance’ : Kharge
On the eve of the New Year, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge has directly attacked the BJP-led central government. Through a long post on his X handle, he raised the question of where the country has gone in the BJP's 11th year in power and what the common citizen has received.
According to Kharge, as 2025 draws to close, basic issues like employment, inflation, democratic rights, environment, and social security remain unresolved for the people.
The Congress president accused the government of virtually ending MGNREGA, saying that this has snatched away the "right to work" from crores of poor people. He also claimed that youth unemployment rates remain at high levels and no effective action has been taken against paper leak mafias so far.
Kharge raised questions over implementing the SIR process without adequate preparation and without training BLOs. According to him, this has affected the voting rights of crores of people and exposed the BJP's "vote theft".
The post also expressed serious concern over economic inequality. According to Kharge, nearly 40 percent of the country's total wealth has become concentrated in the hands of just the top 1 percent, deepening the social and economic divide.
He mentioned the continuous weakening of the rupee, saying that the RBI had to sell 32 billion dollars (about 2.8 lakh crore rupees), yet the currency could not be stabilized.
Kharge referred to former US President Donald Trump, saying that the friend of the Modi government who was greeted with "Namaste Trump" imposed the highest tariffs on India in the world. He also said that Trump claimed mediation at least 60 times, now China is also making such claims, but no clear response has come from the Prime Minister.
Kharge praised the army's action after the Pahalgam terror attack but called the comments made by BJP ministers on a woman colonel "shameful".
He described the Manipur crisis as a failure of the Modi-Shah government and said that President's Rule was imposed to cover up the situation. On the environmental front, he mentioned handing over the Aravallis to mining mafias, and threats to Nicobar, Hasdeo, and Mumbai mangroves.
Kharge said that common people got no relief from inflation and claims of reducing GST remained limited to numbers only. Regarding the toxic air across north India including Delhi, he said the government has no concrete roadmap. He also raised questions over lack of accountability in cases like the Kumbh stampede, Delhi station stampede, and children's deaths due to cough syrup.
The post mentioned increasing atrocities on Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes, and minorities. Kharge even said that people holding constitutional positions were not spared."The picture did not change even in 2025"
In conclusion, Kharge said that even in 2025, loot, corruption, and misgovernance dominated the lives of common people. He said that the country needs accountability, transparency, and people-centric politics, not just propaganda and jugglery of numbers.
