35 dead,over 250 injured as flash floods cause massive devastation in Afghanistan
KABUL: At least 35 people were killed and 250 others injured in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.
Qureshi Badlon, the provincial director of information and culture of Nangarhar, said that the disaster that struck on Monday afternoon affected the provincial capital of Jalalabad, Sukh Road district and areas of the province bordering Pakistan.
The official said the death toll is expected to rise. Five people were also killed in a similar natural disaster in Nangarhar's neighboring Kunar province on Monday morning. Heavy rains and floods have killed more than 400 people and left thousands homeless in Afghanistan since May.
