BJP attempting to centralize power: Rahul Gandhi
KOCHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to centralize power, while stating that the Congress believes in decentralization.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha made these remarks at a 'Maha Panchayat' in Kochi, attended by elected Congress members from the recent local body elections.
He also said that the Congress introduced the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments to strengthen the three-tier Panchayati Raj system.
Rahul Gandhi emphasied that protecting the Constitution means safeguarding decentralized governance at the grassroots level.
He highlighted that renowned Malayalam writer M.Leelavathi had warned him about the growing 'culture of silence' spreading across the country.
He claimed that the BJP wants people to remain silent so that a few corporate groups can control the nation's wealth.
The Congress leader asserted that the people of Kerala cannot be silenced and will voice their opinions through elections.
