Canada expels Indian diplomat over killing of Khalistani terrorist
According to media reports, in June this year, a prominent Khalistani leader of Canada, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was shot dead. Nijjar was attacked by two unknown assailants near Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada. He died in the attack. Indian agency NIA had declared Nijjar a fugitive.Nijjar was the president of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurudwara and was the main face of the extremist organization Sikh for Justice (SFJ) in Canada. Nijjar was also the chief of Khalistan Tiger Force.
According to foreign media reports, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged on Monday that the Indian government may be behind Nijjar's murder. Trudeau said Canadian security agencies have reason to believe that Nijjar was killed by agents of the Indian government. Canadian agencies are investigating the possibility of Indian conspiracy in Nijjar's murder. Trudeau stressed that any involvement in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is unacceptable.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that he had spoken with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 summit held in New Delhi that any involvement of the Government of India in the investigation of the massacre would be unacceptable. I had requested him to cooperate in the investigation. A Canadian citizen has been murdered on Canadian soil. The involvement of any foreign government in its investigation is a violation of our sovereignty. His government itself is working with Canadian agencies. There is coordination between the government and agencies.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said that the Indian official in Canada has been expelled as this is a case of theviolation of the sovereignty. Jolie says that PM Trudeau has also raised this issue with US President Joe Biden. Canadian Public Security Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Canada's National Security Advisor and the head of the Canadian Spy Service have spoken to their Indian counterparts regarding this. At the same time, on the Canadian PM's statement in Parliament, opposition party leader Pierre Poilievre said that if your allegations are true then it is an insult to our sovereignty.
