Colombian Presidential Candidate Shot in Head, Condition Critical, Attacker Arrested

(Fast Mail):--On Saturday, during a campaign rally in Colombia’s capital, Bogotá, armed assailants shot and injured Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a potential presidential candidate. Authorities confirmed the incident, according to reports.

Uribe, a member of Colombia’s Senate and a prospective candidate for the 2026 presidential election, belongs to the opposition Democratic Center party. The party issued a statement condemning the incident as an “unacceptable act of violence,” stating that the attack occurred in a park in the Fontibón neighborhood when armed attackers shot the senator from behind.

Images circulating on social media show a bloodied Uribe being supported by several people, with apparent injuries to his head. No official update on the senator’s condition has been released, though reports suggest he remains in critical condition.

Bogotá Mayor Carlos Galán posted on X, confirming that the suspected attacker has been apprehended. However, the federal government announced a reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the attack.

Uribe, a right-wing senator, is the son of a journalist who was kidnapped and killed by a criminal gang. He is considered a potential candidate for Colombia’s presidential election scheduled for May 2026. Police have arrested the suspected attacker at the scene.
