Middle East Trip Forces Trump to Diverge From Established Principles

Abu Dhabi: The first Middle East trip of U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term suggests he may be diverging from the established principles of his first term’s foreign policy.

For a leader who campaigned on an "America First" promise amid deep isolationist sentiments, this will be a challenging time. His focus now appears to be reshaping himself as a global leader.

CNN’s analysis of the Middle East trip states that Trump has spent the initial months of his second term aggressively redefining America’s role in the world.

His four-day visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates this week underscored how dramatically he has reimagined traditional alliances and engaged in global conflicts.

His decision to lift sanctions on Syria and become the first U.S. president in 25 years to meet a Syrian leader signals both risk and engagement, reflecting his evolving strategy. This approach does not fully align with the views of some of his staunchest conservative allies.

His closed-door meeting with interim Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara is likely to be remembered as the most significant moment of the trip.
