Modi Government Planning to Lift Ban on Chinese Companies : Congress

(Fast Mail):-- The Congress on Friday, citing a news report, claimed that the Modi government is now proposing to lift the five-year-old restrictions on Chinese companies so that they can bid for Indian government contracts.

The opposition party also claimed that this step is nothing less than a "deliberate surrender policy" in the face of Chinese aggression.

The Congress further demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarify his government's sudden "U-turn" on China policy during the upcoming Budget session of Parliament. The Congress shared a news report on 'X', claiming that India's Finance Ministry is planning to end the five-year-old restrictions on Chinese companies bidding for government contracts.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh shared a news report on 'X', claiming that India's Finance Ministry is planning to scrap the five-year-old restrictions on Chinese companies bidding for government contracts.

Ramesh wrote on 'X': "Eight months after China provided full military support (and openly took the front) to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, and after the Army's Deputy Chief Lieutenant General Rahul R. Singh described China as one of India's 'adversaries'—now the Modi government is proposing to lift the five-year-old restrictions on Chinese companies so that they can bid for Indian government contracts."

He said that this step comes at a time when earlier decisions have allowed Chinese companies to invest in India's electronics sector, liberally granted visas to Chinese workers, and India's record trade deficit with China continues to rise.

He claimed that these decisions are part of broader recommendations from NITI Aayog aimed at completely removing all restrictions on Chinese trade and investment in India.

Ramesh said, "This step is nothing less than a deliberate surrender policy in the face of Chinese aggression, stemming from the Prime Minister's own weakness—the most shameful example of which is the public 'clean chit' he gave to China on June 19, 2020."

The Congress leader said, "This humiliating bowing is happening at a time when Indian soldiers are being prevented from accessing traditional patrolling areas, China maintains a heavy military presence in eastern Ladakh, continues to provoke on Arunachal Pradesh, and is building the Medog dam on the Brahmaputra River—all this less than a year after providing hyperactive support to Pakistan's attacks on India."

Ramesh said that the Prime Minister's "evasive" responses have been going on for far too long. He demanded that now he must explain his government's "U-turn" on China policy in the upcoming Budget session of Parliament.
