Newly-formed Sanjay Singh-led WFI suspended by Sports Ministry

 NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry today  suspended the newly elected body of Wrestling Federation of India.

The move comes after newly-elected WFI president Sanjay Singh announced U-15 and U-20 nationals to take place in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP) before the end of this year.

Sanjay Singh, a close aide of deposed former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, was on Thursday elected as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India.

Wrestlers were continuously expressing their displeasure over Sanjay Singh, close aide to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, becoming the WFI President. For this reason Sakshi Malik had also announced to quit wrestling.

Now, taking major action against the WFI President,the Sports Minister has cancelled the entire new body including Sanjay Singh.


 Now,after the mnistry’s decision,all the new members who were appointed along with Sanjay Singh have been suspended. Along with this, all the decisions of Sanjay Singh have also been put on hold,according to reports.

Sanjay Singh was selected as the new President of WFI just two days ago. As soon as he becomes the president, the anger of the wrestlers was at its peak.

As soon as Sanjay Singh became the president,Sakshi Malik had decided to quit wrestling while holding a press conference.

Sakshi Malit had cried and said that if Sanjay Singh remains the president of the wrestling association, then she will not be able to wrestle.

Sakshi Malik left wrestling and after her decision, Bajrang Punia also came in her support of her and also announced to return the Padmashree Award. This anger of the wrestlers did not stop here and wrestler Virendra Singh has also come out in support of the wrestlers and said that they will return the Padmashree Award.
