Odisha Minister Naba Das Dies Hours After He Was Shot In The Chest By Cop

Odisha Health Minister Naba Kisore Das died today, hours after he was shot by an assistant sub-inspector. The incident occurred at Gandhi Chowk near Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district.

According to sources, Naba Das was on his way to attend a programmw at Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar when he was shot. A video has surfaced just before the incident in which it can be clearly seen that as soon as Das started getting out of the car, he was shot from close range.

Although the attacker is not visible in this video,in the video, a loud sound of firing can be heard amid sloganeering by the supporters. Along with this, Naba Das can also be seen holding his chest and falling on the seat.

In another video clip, Das is seen bleeding from his chest as people try to lift the injured minister. The Health Minister has been made to lie on the front seat of the car. Odisha's Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das was shot dead by an assistant sub-inspector of police in Jharsuguda district on Sunday.

 

 The incident took place in Brajrajnagar town of the district around 1 pm when Das was on his way to attend a meeting, the official said. Brajrajnagar SDPO Gupteshwar Bhoi told reporters, “Assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Gopal Das fired at the minister. The minister has been injured in the incident and has been taken to the hospital.”

The minister was  brought to Bhubaneswar for treatment.The minister was airlifted to Bhubaneswar where he was admitted to the hospital as soon as he reaches Bhubaneswar. But,later,the minister succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile,the crime branch has started investigating the matter. On the other hand, the police have taken the ASI who was firing into custody. He is under interrogation.

 Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condemned the attack on the Health Minister and expressed grief. He said, “Shocked to hear the news of the death. The crime branch has been directed to investigate. Officials have been asked to go to the spot."

Naba Das is a prominent leader of the ruling BJD and the firing on him ahead of the 2024 elections is definitely a matter of grave concern.
