Congress Condemns Israel's Bombing and Targeted Killings in Iran

 By Jagadananda Pradhan

(Fast Mail):--The Congress party on Sunday condemned Israel's recent "bombing and targeted killings" in Iran, stating that the attack on Iran's sovereignty and violation of its rights will escalate instability and sow the seeds for future conflict.

The Congress urged India to speak clearly, act responsibly, and utilize every available diplomatic channel to de-escalate tensions and promote dialogue.

In a post on 'X', Congress General Secretary (In-charge Communications) Jairam Ramesh said, "The Indian National Congress unequivocally condemns Israel's recent bombing and targeted killings in Iran. This is a dangerous provocative act with serious regional and global consequences."

He wrote in his post , "This attack on Iran's sovereignty and violation of its rights—whether through airstrikes or covert assassinations—will further destabilize the region and sow the seeds for future conflict."

Ramesh stated that the Congress party firmly believes diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation are the only legitimate and sustainable paths forward, rather than violence.

He added, "Aggression must cease immediately. The continuation of military confrontation risks pushing an already fragile region into a broader war, with potentially devastating humanitarian and economic consequences."

Ramesh noted that India has long-standing cultural ties with Iran and has developed strategic relations with Israel in recent decades. He said this unique position gives India a moral responsibility to reduce tensions and establish peace.

He further stated, "With millions of Indian citizens living and working in West Asia, peace in this region is not only a geopolitical concern but also a critical national interest for India. India must speak clearly, act responsibly, and use every diplomatic means available to promote efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore dialogue."

Israel launched 'Operation Rising Lion' on Friday, targeting Iran's nuclear, missile, and military sites. The attack resulted in the deaths of Iran's senior military commander and nuclear scientists. Iran retaliated with drone and ballistic missile strikes on Israel.
