Barcelona Wins La Liga 2024-25 Title, Yamal’s Goal Secures Victory
With this win, Hansi Flick’s team moved seven points ahead of Real Madrid, with only two matches remaining in the league. This victory secured Barcelona’s 28th La Liga title and completed a domestic treble (La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup).
Interestingly, Barcelona won the title at Espanyol’s stadium, the same venue where they clinched the title in 2023. Back then, angry fans forced the players to flee the pitch. This time, Espanyol fans showed their frustration by turning on the pitch sprinklers, cutting short Barcelona’s celebrations.
In the second half, Yamal broke the deadlock with a stunning goal. Cutting in from the right wing, he unleashed a curling shot from outside the box that found the top corner, reminiscent of his goal for Spain in the Euro 2024 semifinal.
In the 62nd minute, Espanyol suffered a blow when Leandro Cabrera was shown a red card for elbowing Yamal in the stomach. Despite being a man down, Espanyol kept up the pressure, but Fermín López’s late goal dashed their hopes.
Before the match, an accident occurred where some Espanyol fans were hit by a car. Police described it as an accident, with no reports of serious injuries.
This season, Barcelona has dominated domestically, with the Champions League being the only major title they missed. However, this young squad has raised high hopes for the future.
