Ambedkar Row: Opposition MPs hold rally at Vijay Chowk against Amit Shah

Leaders of the Congress and some other constituent parties of the 'INDIA' alliance on Friday staged a protest march against Home Minister Amit Shah's "insulting" remarks in reference to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.

At Vijay Chowk near the Parliament House, MPs of the 'INDIA' alliance raised placards with Babasaheb's picture amid slogans of  "Amit Shah resign" and "Amit Shah apologize". Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, several MPs of the party, leaders of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and some other constituent parties of the 'India' alliance joined the protest.

Opposition parties used to stage protests near Parliament's Makar Dwar during the winter session of Parliament, though  after Thursday's incident, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla directed that no political party, MP and group of MPs should demonstrate before any part of the Parliament.

Protesting against Home Minister Amit Shah's comments regarding Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, opposition members took out a march yesterday while BJP MPs protested accusing the Congress of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Near the 'Makar Dwar' of the Parliament House, members of the ruling party and the opposition faced each other and shouted slogans.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi pushed and shoved its senior MP Pratap Sarangi. BJP MP Mukesh Rajput has also been injured.

On the other hand, the Congress claims that the BJP MPs prevented and pushed its President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and several women MPs from entering the Parliament House.

The Congress and several other opposition parties have alleged that Shah insulted Babasaheb during his address on Tuesday, responding to a two-day debate in the Rajya Sabha on '75 years of glorious journey of India's Constitution'.

The main opposition party also released a video excerpt of Shah's address, in which the home minister can be heard lashing out at the opposition, saying, "There has been a fashion now - Ambedkar, Ambedkar... If you take the name of God, you will have got way into heaven for seven births.
