One-Day Special Session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Pays Tribute to Victims of Pahalgam Attack

A one-day special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was convened on Monday following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The session began with tributes to those killed in the attack, observing a two-minute silence.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, speaking to the media, condemned the attack, stating, "The incident in Pahalgam is highly condemnable, and we strongly denounce it. Pakistan must realize that in the past 30-35 years, they have gained nothing from Jammu and Kashmir, nor will they in the future. We deeply regret the loss of lives, including those of our guests, in this attack."

Congress MLA Gulam Ahmad Mir, addressing the Pahalgam attack, said, "The entire nation stands united in condemning this attack. People of Jammu and Kashmir have also come forward in large numbers to denounce it. The Assembly will echo the same sentiment today, emphasizing that the agenda of terrorists must be defeated, starting with fostering brotherhood here."

Health Minister Dr. Sakina Itoo, speaking on the attack, remarked, "No words can adequately express the grief, as such incidents tarnish humanity. These events are deeply wrong and should never occur."

The special session was called by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under Section 18(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. In his order, Sinha stated, "I, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 18(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, hereby call a meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Jammu on Monday, April 28, at 10:30 AM."

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 claimed 26 lives.
