Amit Chavda Appointed Gujarat Congress President, Tushar Chaudhary Named Leader of Legislative Party

(Fast Mail): The Congress party has made significant changes in its Gujarat unit, appointing Amit Chavda as the new president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), replacing Shaktisinh Gohil.

Additionally, the party has appointed Dr. Tushar Chaudhary as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Gujarat.

In an official press release, the Congress party stated, "Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Amit Chavda as the president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect."

The release further added, "Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also approved the proposal to appoint Dr. Tushar Chaudhary as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Gujarat with immediate effect."

The Congress leadership appreciated the contributions of outgoing GPCC president Shaktisinh Gohil, who resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the party’s defeat in the recent by-elections in Gujarat.

The Congress faced significant losses in both seats contested during the by-elections. Shaktisinh Gohil was appointed as the Gujarat PCC chief in June 2023, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Active in politics since his NSUI days, Amit Chavda was first elected as an MLA from Borsad in 2004 and again in 2009 from the same seat. He later secured significant victories in the Anklav Assembly constituency in 2012, 2017, and 2022.

Chavda previously served as the GPCC president from 2018 to 2021 and was the leader of the Congress Legislative Party in the Gujarat Assembly until this appointment.
