Congress accuses Modi government of calling "Special Session" to influence election results in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to take credit once again by amending the Women's Reservation Act.
He further said that the government has taken a unilateral decision to amend the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women's Reservation Act) along with delimitation, without holding any discussion with the opposition.
The current Budget Session of Parliament was extended on Thursday to pass the Women's Reservation Bill, and the next sitting of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will now be held on 16 April.
A three-day session of both Houses is likely to be held between 16 and 18 April. As per the previously scheduled programme, the current Budget Session of Parliament was supposed to conclude on Thursday, 2 April.
Ramesh told reporters, "On 16 March, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote a letter to Mallikarjun Kharge saying that the government wants to discuss the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
Kharge replied that an all-party meeting should be called, in which the government should give its proposal in writing about what it wants to do."

According to him, on 24 March, opposition leaders wrote to Rijiju again, saying that the all-party meeting should be called after 29 April, because assembly elections in five states would be completed by 29 April.
Ramesh said, "On 26 March, Rijiju again wrote to Kharge asking Congress to hold talks with the government. Kharge reiterated in his reply that the all-party meeting should be called after 29 April."
He claimed that the government had already decided that a "special session" would be called and unilaterally decided to hold the "special session" before the assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, and while the Model Code of Conduct was in force.
He said, "We have also received information that this special session is not only about the Women's Reservation Act, but also about delimitation, even though no discussion was held earlier regarding delimitation."
According to the Congress General Secretary, the delimitation being proposed by the government is dangerous.????? ?????? ?? ?? ???? ???? ???? ??? ????? ???? ????? ???? ??????? ?? ??? ?? ???

Ramesh said that the information received indicates that there will be a proportional 50 per cent increase in the number of Lok Sabha seats, and if this happens, the smaller states of South India, West India, and Northeast India will suffer.
The Congress leader said, "In 2023, a special session was called and the Nari Shakti Adhiniyam was passed, and it was said that women's reservation would be implemented after the census and delimitation. At that time, Kharge had said that women's reservation could be implemented immediately."
Ramesh said that the government slept over the issue for 30 months and is now saying that it will be implemented before the new census because the census will take three-four years.
Citing a statement by Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar, Ramesh said it is completely wrong to claim that the census will take three-four years, because the maximum data will be available by 2027.
He alleged that this "special session" has been called to gain electoral benefit and to influence the assembly election results in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
He said, "This is an election session in which the Prime Minister will take credit that I will implement women's reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections."
Ramesh alleged that this is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Assembly elections are scheduled in West Bengal in two phases on 23 and 29 April, and in Tamil Nadu on 23 April.
Ramesh said that a meeting of Congress leaders and then a meeting of opposition leaders will be called in the coming days regarding this session. He stressed, "The opposition is united."
