Bihar doesn’t need lantern: PM Modi

PATNA: Bihar is gearing up for elections to its 243-member Assembly, scheduled in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14. The contest is shaping up as a high-stakes showdown between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Opposition-led INDIA bloc.

The NDA—comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM)—has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement. Both the BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while the LJP (Ram Vilas) has been allotted 29 seats, and HAM and RLM will contest six seats apiece. Bihar BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde emphasized the alliance’s unity and confidence in returning to power.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc, led by Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) along with the Congress, CPI (ML), CPI, CPM, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP), is in the final stages of its seat-sharing talks. Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru and other senior leaders have indicated that discussions are nearing completion to ensure a fair division of seats. Congress leader Manoj Kumar expressed optimism, citing the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and Tejashwi Yadav as the bloc’s key strength.

As the campaign season heats up, Bihar’s political landscape is poised for a tightly contested battle, with the NDA striving to retain power and the INDIA bloc seeking to project a unified alternative. The emergence of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj movement is also expected to introduce a fresh element into the state’s electoral dynamics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will secure its biggest-ever victory in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Speaking at a rally in Samastipur, Modi said, “This time under the leadership of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, NDA will break all its previous records of victory. Bihar will give NDA its biggest ever mandate.”

"You all are getting benefits of the 'GST Bachat Utsav' and from tomorrow the grand festival of Chhath Puja will begin. I thank you all for coming here in large numbers...'Nayi Raftar se chalega Bihar jab phir aayegi NDA sarkar'...":
