Himanta Sarma is most corrupt chief minister: Rahul Gandhi reiterates

(Fast Mail):--  Congress former president Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will not escape the clutches of the law and that the questions raised against him must be investigated.

He also stated that the entire Congress party stands with Pawan Khera and will not be scared of actions being taken through the misuse of power.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, posted on ‘X’: “The current Chief Minister of Assam is the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country. He will not escape the law. Misusing the state’s power to harass political opponents and critics is against the Constitution.”

He said that the questions being raised must be probed because transparency, accountability of power, and the rule of law are the foundation of the country’s constitutional values.

Rahul Gandhi said, “The Congress party stands with Pawan Khera. We will not be intimidated.”

Pawan Khera had alleged on April 5 that Himanta Sharma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, holds passports of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda. She also has two properties in Dubai and assets in shell companies in the United States, which the Chief Minister did not mention in his election affidavit.

Himanta Sarma and his wife have rejected the allegations. The Chief Minister’s wife filed a complaint against Khera with the Assam Police, following which a police team reached Khera’s residence in Delhi and conducted a search.

The Telangana High Court granted him anticipatory bail for one week on April 10.

Rahul Gandhi reiterated his strong support for Pawan Khera today through a post on X, calling Himanta Biswa Sarma “the most corrupt Chief Minister in the country” and accusing him of misusing state machinery to target political opponents. He demanded a proper investigation into the allegations.

The Assam government has challenged the one-week transit anticipatory bail granted to Pawan Khera by the Telangana High Court and has moved the Supreme Court in the matter.

Himanta Sarma and his wife have strongly denied the claims, calling the documents fake, fabricated, and possibly linked to AI-edited or Pakistani-origin social media material. They have filed FIRs against Khera for defamation and related offences.

This controversy erupted just before the Assam Assembly elections held on 9 April 2026. The matter remains politically charged, with legal proceedings ongoing.
