Second Round of Talks Between Iran and America to be Held Soon : Trump
In an interview with the New York Post, President Trump stated that the talks could happen very soon and mentioned Pakistan as a possible venue. Referring to Islamabad, he said, “Something could happen in the next two days, and we are much more prepared to go there.”
It is worth noting that the first round of talks between the US and Iran lasted for several hours, but no major agreements were reached between the two sides. Trump said the initial plan was pointing towards Europe, which later shifted to Pakistan.
This diplomatic effort comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf. US Central Command stated that in the first 24 hours, no ships from Iranian ports attempted to cross the American blockade. Six merchant vessels followed US instructions and turned back towards Iranian ports in the Gulf of Oman. Shipping data also presented a mixed picture.
After the blockade began, several ships linked to Iran were tracked passing through the Strait of Hormuz. During the same period, more than 20 commercial vessels crossed the strait, including tankers and cargo ships. These vessels had not departed from Iranian ports. This indicates that traffic on the main waterway has not been completely disrupted.
Vice President JD Vance said in Georgia that Washington wants to reach a major deal with Tehran. The US wants Iran to prosper economically, but only if it promises not to build nuclear weapons.
The United Nations has called for continued dialogue. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said there is a possibility of talks resuming between Washington and Tehran and appealed for sustained diplomatic efforts.
Hopes of resumed negotiations immediately impacted the markets. US crude futures fell nearly 8% to their lowest level in weeks, raising expectations that tensions may ease and energy flows could stabilize. However, uncertainty remains regarding the blockade and its enforcement.
A significant portion of the world’s oil shipments pass through the Strait of Hormuz, making it a critical chokepoint for the global energy market.
The US-Iran confrontation comes after decades of strained relations centered on Tehran’s nuclear program and its regional role. Previous attempts to curb Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief have repeatedly failed.
Any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has historically caused volatility in oil prices and heightened concerns about global energy security.
