Delhi Police registers case against TMC MP Mahua Moitra over derogatory remark on NCW chief Rekha Sharma

 NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has registered a case against Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra at the Special Cell police station for allegedly making derogatory comments on social media about National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma. The NCW had written to the Delhi Police to take action against Moitra.

The Delhi Police said that a complaint has been received from the National Commission for Women, alleging that the alleged reposting of a tweet (on social media platform X) by TMC MP Mohua Mitra has led to an offence under Section 79, BNS-2023. Taking cognizance of the complaint and after preliminary investigation of its contents, a case has been registered under Section 79, BNS-2023 at the Special Cell police station and investigation has been started.

 

 

 Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra had allegedly commented on a video posted on X, which showed NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma arriving at the stampede site in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Moitra later deleted the post. The original post showed a man holding an umbrella and walking behind the National Commission for Women chief.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma had strongly objected and made sharp attacks on Mahua Moitra. She also talked about taking legal action against Moitra. After Rekha Sharma's reaction, the National Commission for Women took suo moto cognizance of the matter and sent a complaint to the Delhi Police and directed them to take action. Today, on the basis of this complaint of the Commission, Delhi Police registered a case against Moitra.
