Former Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides elected new President of Cyprus

 NICOSIA:Former Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides has been elected as the new President of the country. He defeated Andreas Mavroyanis in the election in a close fight.

This time's election in Cyprus was considered to be full of struggle. This time more votes were cast than last time.According to reports, 72.4 percent of the total electorate in Cyprus exercised their franchise. Of these, 51.9 percent voted in favor of former Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides. His opponent, Andreas Mavroyanis, got 48.1 percent of the vote. Admitting defeat in the election, Andreas Mavroyanis called the end of a journey after the election results.

 

 

 Describing his election campaign as a wonderful journey, he said that he shared this journey with thousands of people. He regretted that he had not been able to achieve the change needed for Cyprus.

On the other hand, even before the counting of votes, Christodoulides had expressed confidence of his victory. He said that the people of Cyprus know and understand what is at stake. He expressed full confidence in the decision of the people of Cyprus. Ultimately, the public did not disappoint him by winning the election.
