INS Vikramaditya launched for sea trials after repairs

New Delhi, Feb 27, (Fast Mail News):-- Sea trials of aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya have begun after nearly a year of repairs. The aircraft carrier is expected to be inducted into an operational role soon after the completion of the trials. The Indian Navy operates MiG-29K fighter jets from this aircraft carrier. It will be officially handed over to the Indian Navy by March 31 and the MiG-29K will begin operations in April.

India's first aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya was sent to the Karwar Naval Base for repairs in December 2021. After the completion of the repair of the aircraft carrier weighing about 45 thousand tons, its sea trials have now been started. During this time the ship will proceed under her own engines to the outer anchorage of Karwar Naval Base. It will be officially handed over to the Indian Navy by March 31, after the completion of the 15-month process. After this, the operation of MiG-29K from the ship will start in April. The trials will begin in March with air operations between Goa and INS Kadamba commencing in April.

The warship has the capacity to carry a maximum of 36 aircraft, including 26 MiG-29K fighters and 10 Kamov Ka-31 Advance Electronic Warning (AEW) and Ka-28 Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) helicopters. India will have two aircraft carriers once INS Vikramaditya becomes operational. The second aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, is already undergoing trials off the western seaboard. Vikrant is planned to be stationed at Visakhapatnam on India's east coast and the former Russian carrier INS Vikramaditya on the west coast.
