One contract labourer died in Nalco Smelter plant
ANGUL:One contractual worker working in Nalco Smelter plant died in an accident occurred in the plant this morning.The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kumar Pal,43 of Purunagarh area of Angul district.He had been working in the plant for last 10 to 15 years in a contract company.
Police sources said,at about at about 9am this morning Pal was working in the plant and at the same time an aluminium loaded truck ran over him killing him on the spot.CCTV image showed that the rear wheel of the truck crushed Pal.
After the incident, tension created in the smelter plant where hundreds of workers gathered.They demanded rupees fifty lakh compensation and job to the family of the deceased.Senior Nalco officials and local police authorities reached the spot and pacified the workers.
According to IIC of Nalco police station Pradeep Mahanta, there was an agreement between Nalco and the family members that the company will provide rupees 15 lakhs as per the provision and all facilities as per the law.It was also agreed that the company will provide employment to the wife of the deceased in the plant.The IIC said a case has been registered in the connection after the body was sent for post mortem.He said the driver of the truck will be arrested in connection with the case.
