PM Modi goes on 20KM jeep safari in Bandipur Tiger Reserve

BENGALURU:Prime Minister Narendra Modi today enjoyed a 20 km jeep safari in Karnataka's Bandipur Tiger Reserve. He also visited an elephant camp at Mudumalai in the Nilgiris hill district of Tamil Nadu. Elephants welcomed the Prime Minister in the camp. Modi also fed sugarcane to some elephants at Theppakkadu camp of the tiger reserve here.

In a short while, on the occasion of completion of 50 years of 'Project Tiger', the latest figures regarding the population of tigers in the country will be released in Mysore. The Prime Minister will also present the government's vision for tiger conservation during the 'Amrit Kaal'. He will also launch the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA).

IBCA includes countries where seven animals of the 'Big Cats' species are found - tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, puma, jaguar and cheetah. This organization will focus on the conservation and protection of these animals.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister reached Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Chamrajnagar district and interacted with frontline workers and self-help groups of the area involved in conservation activities.

He also visited the Theppakadu elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district bordering Tamil Nadu and interacted with the mahouts and 'kavadis' of the elephant camp.

The Prime Minister also interacted with the field directors of the tiger reserves, who scored highly in the fifth round of the recently concluded Management Effectiveness Assessment exercise.

 

 

 In July 2019, the Prime Minister had called for a 'coalition of world leaders' and talked about strongly curbing poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Asia. Taking forward the message of the Prime Minister, IBCA is being started.

Modi will inaugurate a programme on the occasion of completion of 50 years of 'Project Tiger'. During this, he will release the publications 'Amrit Kaal's Vision for Tiger Conservation', summary report of fifth cycle of management effectiveness assessment of tiger reserves, declaration of tiger numbers and summary report of All India Tiger Estimation (fifth cycle).

A commemorative coin will also be released on the occasion of completion of 50 years of 'Project Tiger'. The head of 'Project Tiger' said that India aims to maintain a viable tiger population based on scientifically assessed habitat capacity while maintaining a balance between development and wildlife conservation.

Additional Director General of Forests SP Yadav said that though poaching of tigers has reduced to a great extent due to better technology and protection mechanisms, it is still the biggest threat to them, besides the loss of their habitat. Is.
