Wrestlers and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to meet 'Round-2' today, talks inconclusive yesterday
NEW DELHI:Talks between wrestlers and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, who have leveled serious allegations against the president and coaches of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), have been inconclusive for nearly four and a half hours last night.
Last night at around 10 pm many wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia arrived at sports minister Anurag Thakur's house for dinner. Sports Authority DG Sandeep Pradhan was also present on this occasion. The players came out at around two o'clock in the night but none of the players spoke to the media. The athletes who got out of the two cars had their windows closed and did not answer any questions from the media.
Today these players will have a meeting with the sports minister again. This meeting is scheduled at 8 am. Meanwhile, it is reported from sources that the government will give a chance to the president of the wrestling federation, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, to have his say before taking any action. The wrestling federation has until Saturday evening to respond. Whether the players will picket at the Jantar Mantar today will be decided by what is decided in the conversation with the sports minister.
There will be another discussion between the players and the sports minister today, after which a solution can be found. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has assured the players to take appropriate action.
According to sources, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh will be given time to speak his mind. The Sports Minister has asked the players to wait for the reply of the wrestling association. The wrestling federation was given 72 hours to respond on Wednesday. The wrestling federation has to respond by the evening of January 21. This also means that players may have to wait until Saturday evening.
