According to reports, secret Service agents surrounded Trump to save him, and then took him inside. The former president was bleeding from the right side of his face. When he was being taken, he raised his hand in the air.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The shooter who fired the shot was shot at the same time. Local officials said the shooter was hiding in a building outside the rally site.In another report, one of the people who came to the rally died. Another person was seriously injured.
President Joe Biden said in his message to the nation that he tried to talk to Trump. For the first time, Biden publicly addressed Trump as "Donald".
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin tweeted, "The entire Department of Defense condemns this violence, which has no place in our democracy. It is not the way we resolve our differences in America — and it should never be. I am relieved that reports indicate that former President Trump is safe, and I am praying for him and his family, and everyone affected by this horrific incident."
Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social said, 'I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening,' Trump said.
It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead, he added.
