President Joe Biden said in his message to the nation that he tried to talk to Trump. For the first time, Biden publicly addressed Trump as "Donald".
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin tweeted, "The entire Department of Defense condemns this violence, which has no place in our democracy. It is not the way we resolve our differences in America — and it should never be. I am relieved that reports indicate that former President Trump is safe, and I am praying for him and his family, and everyone affected by this horrific incident."
Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social said, 'I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening,' Trump said.
It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead, he added.
