3 killed in road accident near Indonesian capital

 JAKARTA: At least three people were killed and three others wounded Monday in a road accident near the Indonesian capital, a local traffic police officer said.

 A driver allegedly lost control of his tank truck after the vehicle experienced a brake failure. The truck hit a number of vehicles in Tangerang, a satellite town west of Jakarta, Traffic Police Chief Fikri Ardiansyah said, adding that three people died at the scene.

 The accident also injured at least three people seriously, who have been transferred to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, the truck driver has been detained by police officers for further interrogation.

 Deadly road accidents, often caused by overloading, bad road conditions and reckless driving, are frequently reported in Indonesia.
