Government's mistake, people will pay the price : Rahul Gandhi on hike in petrol-diesel-CNG prices

NEW DELHI:  Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a sharp attack on the Central Government following the increase in prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG.

Reacting strongly, he said that the government’s mistake will be paid for by the public. Rahul Gandhi has also expressed apprehension that fuel prices may rise further in the future.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi posted on the social media platform 'X' on Friday:"Government’s mistake, people will pay the price. The ?3 shock has already come, the rest will be recovered in instalments."

Meanwhile, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the people of the country must understand that, along with the global fuel crisis, the main reasons for the economic crisis in India are a leadership crisis in the government, lack of foresight, and complete incompetence.

Kharge wrote in his 'X' post:"This crisis has been created by the government, and the people of the country are having to bear the brunt of it by paying from their own pockets for petrol, diesel, and LPG. When diesel prices rise, inflation affects the entire country. It badly impacts industries, household budgets, and farmers alike."

The Congress President said that when the war started in West Asia, the country was told that 'everything is fine' and Congress’s questions were dismissed. No concrete steps were taken. Instead, India’s sovereignty was mortgaged under American "permission" and "approval".

He added that during elections, the government behaves as if "everything is normal" and the Central Government’s only job is to contest elections in states. Now that the crisis is deepening, the Prime Minister has started "working from home" and rattling the "fuel-saving" toy.

Kharge questioned the government: “In March, a 30-day waiver was given for buying Russian oil, in which America used derogatory words like 'permission' and 'approval'. According to reports, the Indian government now wants to extend that waiver. The question is — why has the government brought the country to a position where it has to seek 'permission'?"

The Congress President also asked: Isn’t it true that when international crude oil prices were low, the government did not give any relief to the common people? Instead, it earned ?43 lakh crore through taxes in 10 years? Kharge questioned why the burden of inflation is being imposed on the public.
