Bangladesh: Ahmadiyya community attacked, two killed, 100 injured

 Dhaka, Mar 04, (Fast Mail News):-- The three-day 'Jalsa Salana' of the Ahmadiyya community in northern Bangladesh's Panchagarh district has drawn strong opposition from local Islamic organisations. At least two people were killed and more than 100 were injured in attacks on the Ahmadiyya community during the 24-hour protest.

 

The assailants went on a rampage torching houses and vandalizing shops belonging to this community. Nine policemen and two journalists were also among the injured. Members of the Ahmadiyya community were reported to have torched over 30 houses during the attack, then torched the traffic police office. To deal with the situation, 17 Platoon of Border Guard Bangladesh has been deployed in Panchagarh town area.

 

 

 

 Ahmed Tabsher Chaudhary, the coordinator of the annual procession of the Ahmadiyya community, has said that two people, including Zahid Hasan, a 23-year-old youth from our community, were killed. Chowdhury said the Islamists, protesting the Jalsa, took Zahid to the banks of the Karatova River and killed him there.

 

Arifur Rahman (28) also died in this attack. Amidst the violence, the district authority and the police have announced the postponement of the ceremony. Superintendent of Police S.M. Sirajul Huda claimed to have the situation under control.
