Bengal Elections: We will approach the court again against removal of names from voter list, says Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission on Wednesday over the issue of removing names from the voter list, stating that her party will once again approach the court to oppose the deletion of voters' names.

She made these remarks after nearly 91 lakh voters' names were removed from the voter list following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in the state.

Attacking her main rival BJP over the voter list revision exercise, Mamata Banerjee said, “You will not be able to defeat the Trinamool Congress by removing people’s names from the voter list. We will go to court again against the removal of names.”

Mamata Banerjee had earlier presented arguments in the Supreme Court in February, where she had sought intervention in the SIR process.

According to Election Commission data, in October 2025, there were a total of 7.66 crore voters, out of which more than 90.83 lakh voters' names have been deleted. This shows that the proportion of voters removed still stands at over 11.85 percent.

While addressing an election rally in Arambagh, Hooghly district, the Trinamool Congress supremo accused the BJP of tampering with voter lists and offering money to lure voters.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Election Commission is threatening people over phone calls.

She claimed, “The Election Commission is working at the behest of the BJP. It is threatening and scaring people by calling them on the phone.”
