He will now work as Deputy Director General in the department dealing with decisions related to land and ocean boundaries including India-China border.

Zhao Lijian is famous for his statements. Lijian, who took over as Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson in 2019, made headlines in March 2020 by tweeting that he accused the US military of bringing the coronavirus to China. As the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, he has also made poisonous statements against India several times. After 2020, his Twitter followers grew exponentially.

Twitter is banned in China and can be used with virtual private network software. At that time, China was facing a virus outbreak.
