Indian Army Thwarts Pakistan's Attempts To Attack Military Bases, Tensions Escalate Between the Two Nations
Explosions and sirens were reported in Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and other areas. The Indian Army conducted extensive air vigilance operations along the Pakistan border at night. Following the neutralization of Pakistan's efforts, the Ministry of Defence stated that India is fully prepared to protect its sovereignty and its people.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said, "Today, Pakistan attempted to target military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur near the Jammu and Kashmir international border with missiles and drones." The spokesperson added that these threats were promptly neutralized by following standard operating procedures.
"There are no reports of casualties or damage to property," the official stated, noting that the conflict escalated on the second day amid already tense relations between the two nations' armed forces.
On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India had decided to carry out "proportionate" strikes to bring the perpetrators and conspirators of the April 22 Pahalgam attack to justice, as Pakistan had taken "no concrete steps" to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in its controlled territories.
Fifteen days after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, a military operation named 'Operation Sindoor' was launched, targeting, among others, Jaish-e-Mohammed's stronghold in Bahawalpur, Punjab province, located 100 kilometers from the Indian border.
Meanwhile, the government has dismissed as baseless reports claiming that Pakistan's airstrikes damaged Gujarat's Hazira Port. According to PIB Fact Check, the video being circulated is from 2021 and has no connection to the current India-Pakistan tensions.
