Congress ultimatum to Pappu Yadav - 'Withdraw nomination from Purnia'
Congress state president Akhilesh Prasad has asked Pappu Yadav to withdraw his nomination, saying that the party high commans and Congress top leadership do not allow anyone to file independent nomination. “Congress party will not accept if someone does this”,he said. Akhilesh gave the example of Nikhil Kumar and said that he did not fight if he did not get a ticket in Aurangabad.
Pappu Yadav has filed independent nomination from Purnia Lok Sabha. After filling the nominations, he said that the Congress has the support, he had to contest the elections as an independent. “Many people conspired to assassinate us politically.Everyone has the same voice as Pappu and Purnia. I will strengthen INDIA Alliance”,he said.
A three-cornered contest is unlikely on the Purnia seat, as BJP's ally JDU in Bihar is fielding sitting MP Santosh Kumar Kushwaha from this seat. Santosh Kushwaha won by 6,32,924 votes during the last Lok Sabha elections. Congress's Uday Singh came second with 3,69,463 votes, while independent candidate Shubhash Kumar Thakur came third with 31,795 votes. This shows that Congress and RJD have a good share of votes in this seat.
Bima Bharti is the former MLA from Rupauli seat under Purnia Lok Sabha seat, while Pappu Yadav still holds significant influence in this seat. The division of votes could help the JDU retain the seat as Kushwaha won by a margin of nearly three lakh votes in the 2019 elections.
