INTUC protest held on NH-55 at Banarpal chhak

Angul:Hundreds of people under the banner of State Unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress staged a four hour long dharna at Banarpal chhak on NH-55 today demanding fulfillment of 10-point charter of demands.

 The dharna was led by State INTUC president Ramachandra Khuntia,General Secretary Kishore jena,Digambar Garnayak,Sashmita Behera,Nirmal Samal.Among the main demands they put forth immediate renovation of NH-55 and 53,employment in public sectors like Nalco.MCL and NTPC,wage hike of workers working in unorganized sector among others.Though they staged dharna from 10am to 2pm they didn’t resort to road blockade disrupting traffic.Traffic was as usual during their strike.

 

 

  Speaking to reporters,the state president Ramachndra Khuntia accused state and central government of indifference  in the expansion work of NH-55 and NH-53.he also alleged raw deal by central sector undertakings working in Angul district in giving employment to land oustees.

 He warned that if his 10-point charter of demands are not met  then the collector office will be gheraoed with thousands of people.The INTUC protest came in wake of inordinate delay in the work of four-laning of NH-55.Though the work was started in 2028 it is still continuing amid wretched conditions of the road right from Manguli chhak to Sambalpur.Here also condition of NH-149 linking Kaniha to Banarpal is so worst that it is dangerous to travel on this road..Several agitations  by local outfits were staged.But there was no result so far from centre and state government.
