Kharge Condemns Killing of Hindu Leader in Bangladesh, Takes Swipe At Modi Government's Diplomacy
On Saturday, Kharge posted on the social media platform X, stating, "The continuous atrocities on religious minorities, especially our Hindu brothers and sisters, in Bangladesh are ongoing. The cruel murder of Bhavesh Chandra Roy, a prominent Hindu community leader, is proof that Narendra Modi's 'smiling meeting' with Bangladesh's chief advisor Mohammad Yunus has failed."
In his post, the Congress president wrote, "According to the Indian government's response in Parliament, 76 attacks on Hindus took place in the past two months alone, in which 23 Hindus were killed. Attacks on other religious minorities are also continuing." He added, "Recently, Bangladesh's chief advisor made a highly condemnable and disappointing remark about India's northeastern states."
Kharge further stated, "The atrocities on religious minorities in Bangladesh, human rights violations, and attempts to erase the memories of the 1971 Liberation War are efforts to weaken India-Bangladesh relations. From 1971 to today, India has always desired peace and prosperity for all people of Bangladesh, as this is in the interest of the subcontinent."
Roy, the vice-president of the Birganj unit of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, was abducted from his home in Dinajpur district on Thursday evening.
According to police and family, Roy received a phone call around 4:30 PM, after which four unknown individuals arrived on motorcycles and forcibly took him to Narabari village.
It is alleged that Roy was attacked and found unconscious. He was taken to a hospital in Dinajpur, where he was declared dead.
