Modi Cabinet approves 33 percent women reservation for women

NEW DELHI: On Monday, amid the special session of the parliament, PM Modi called an important cabinet meeting at 6.30 pm and in this cabinet meeting, the Women's Reservation Bill was approved. According to sources, this bill will be presented in the new Parliament tomorrow on 19th September or 20th September. This will be the first bill introduced in the new Parliament and after the bill is passed it will be the first law of the new Parliament. According to sources, Modi cabinet has given its approval to 33 percent women reservation for women.

Interest in the meeting had increased in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks today that "historic decisions" would be taken in this special session. Several key meetings also took place before this - Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi met Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP President JP Nadda was also present in the meeting. There was speculation that the Cabinet could approve anything from reservations for women or other backward classes, "one nation one election" and even changing the name of the country.

Congress party has been demanding for a long time to implement women's reservation. We welcome the reported decision of the Union Cabinet and look forward to the details of the Bill. This could have been thoroughly discussed in the all-party meeting before the special session and a consensus could have been reached instead of working under a veil of secrecy.

The special session of Parliament has started from Monday, September 18 and many important bills are said to be discussed in this special session.

The first day of the special session was held in the old Parliament House, but from the second day i.e. from September 19, the proceedings of the Parliament will now be held in the new Parliament House.
