Movement of Kurmi community continues, rail traffic affected

Kolkata, Apr 6, (Fast Mail News):-- The agitation of the Kurmi community continues for the third consecutive day on the demand of sending the revised CRI report to the Centre. The Sadak Aurat Rail Roko Andolan was started by the people of the tribal Kurmi community from Tuesday evening. The railway along with the national highway was blocked which continued almost all day on Wednesday. After this, people of the society have started protesting with banner posters at many railway stations of Kharagpur division since morning, due to which many trains have been cancelled.

 

Kharagpur Railway's Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Rajesh Kumar said that 84 trains had to be cancelled. Many trains have been shorted and stopped before the destination while many trains of South Eastern Railway going to other states had to be cancelled. He told that it is the work of the state government to ensure that any kind of agitation does not affect the railway services, but every time there is disappointment in this matter.

 

Here, state president of Kurmi social organization Rajesh Mahato said that we have agitated many times regarding this. Every time the state government assures to prepare the revised CRI report soon and send it to the Center but it is not materialized. Shivaji Mahato, president of tribal tribe Kurmi Samaj, said that the CRI report must be given. It is linked to the economic and social development of our society. Before this, we had agitated last year, then the government had said that it would be done within a few months. More than six months have passed but to no avail. He said that at present the movement will go on continuously until proper steps are taken in this regard.

 

District Magistrate Khurshid Ali Qadri said that we have taken information about the demands of the Kurmi community. Efforts are being made to convince them that innumerable people are facing problems due to the agitation. Efforts are on to find an immediate solution through talks.
