Pakistan: Army claims faith in democracy, refuses to impose martial law

Islamabad, May 13, (Fast Mail News):-- The Pakistan Army has claimed faith in democracy amid the uproar in Pakistan since the arrest of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan. Also categorically denied the imposition of martial law.

 

Ever since the arrest of Imran Khan in Pakistan, there has been an uproar in the whole country. More than a dozen people died in violence and arson across the country, while cases have been filed against hundreds of people. The army is the target of the agitators and the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the corps commander's residence in Lahore were also attacked. In such a situation, the discussion of imposing martial law in Pakistan was also happening fast. Meanwhile, the Army has dismissed any such talk.

Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan Army, said that the army supports democracy and will continue to do so.

 

He said that Army Chief General Asim Munir and senior army officers also believe in democracy. He also dismissed reports of Army officers resigning due to the ongoing lawlessness in Pakistan. He said that many people are trying to create a situation of anarchy, but despite all the efforts of these enemies, the army is working unitedly. Neither any army officer has resigned nor disobeyed any order.
