Pakistani Officer Who Captured Indian Air Force Pilot Abhinandan Killed in Taliban Attack

A Pakistani Army Special Service Group officer, who claimed to have captured Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman after his plane crashed in 2019, was killed in a clash with Taliban militants.

According to a statement from the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 37-year-old Major Syed Muiz Abbas Shah was killed on Tuesday in a clash with Taliban militants in the Sararoga area of South Waziristan, near the Afghanistan border.

The statement added that 27-year-old Lance Naik Jibranullah was also killed in the attack.

It further noted that the army personnel killed 11 Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists and injured seven others.

Muiz’s funeral prayers were held at Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi, attended by Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Local media reports mentioned that Muiz was the officer who captured Abhinandan and protected him from mob violence.

An old clip of Muiz’s interview with ‘Geo TV’ has gone viral on social media, where he, then a captain, can be seen describing the details of capturing Abhinandan.
