Rahul Gandhi to sound poll bugle in Karnataka where he made Modi surname remark

NEW DELHI: Ever since the announcement of elections in Karnataka, all the parties have started preparing for the elections. The main contest in this election is believed to be between the Congress and the BJP. Since the announcement of the election, a phase of rhetoric has also started from the top leaders of both the parties.

In this election for BJP, where top leaders like PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda are campaigning, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will lead the campaign for the Congress. The special thing is that Rahul Gandhi is going to start his campaign in Karnataka from the same place from where he made a statement about PM Modi in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that the state will go to polls on May 10. The election results will come on May 13. The Central Election Commission today announced the dates for the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023. There are a total of 224 assembly seats in Karnataka.

At present, the state is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Basavaraj Bommai is the Chief Minister. There are a total of 5,21,73,579 voters in Karnataka, while 9.17 lakh new voters have been added. Those who are turning 18 on April 1 will also be able to vote. Divyang employees will be deployed at 100 booths.

The BJP came to power in Karnataka in July 2019 after the fall of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government formed after the 2018 assembly elections in Karnataka. The BJP formed the government with the support of several rebel MLAs of the JD(S)-Congress alliance. Later, the rebel MLAs joined the BJP and contested and won the by-elections. The BJP has 121 MLAs in the current assembly.

Congress has 70 MLAs and JD(S) has 30 MLAs. The BJP also changed the Chief Minister during its tenure. B.S. Yeddyurappa resigned from the post of Chief Minister in July 2021 and in his place the current Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was installed on the throne.
