Pakistan Launched 400 Drones at 36 Locations in India, Thwarted by Army, Responded to Firing: Ministry of External Affairs
During a press briefing organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Colonel Sofia Qureshi shared that Pakistan targeted border areas such as Tangdhar, Uri, and Udhampur, using around 300 to 400 drones. Initial investigations revealed the use of Turkish-manufactured drones in the attack. Colonel Qureshi noted that the Indian Air Force responded swiftly, destroying Pakistan’s surveillance radar system in a drone counter-attack. She emphasized that the Indian Army exercised utmost restraint to avoid civilian casualties during the operation. Pakistan, instead of closing its airspace, conducted military attacks under the cover of civilian aircraft, violating international security norms.
She said that passenger planes were operating in major Pakistani cities like Karachi and Lahore during the attack, putting innocent lives at risk.
Misri added that Pakistan’s decision to keep its airspace open despite the failed drone attacks was not only irresponsible but also a serious threat to international flight safety. He accused Pakistan of using civilian aircraft as a military shield, violating international norms, and noted that the Indian Air Force ensured the safety of Pakistani civilian aircraft.
Misri stated that Pakistan’s attack aimed to gather intelligence on India’s defense systems, an attempt that was foiled.Regarding Pakistan’s targeting of schools and religious sites along the LoC, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “On the morning of May 7, during heavy firing along the LoC, a shell fired by Pakistan landed behind Christ School in Poonch, hitting the home of two students who tragically lost their lives, while their parents were injured. During the shelling, several school staff and locals took shelter in an underground hall at the school. Fortunately, the school was closed, or the damage could have been greater. Pakistan is targeting specially designed places of worship, including gurdwaras, churches, and temples, with shelling, marking a new low even for Pakistan.”
During the briefing, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated that on the night of May 8-9, Pakistan violated Indian airspace to target military installations. She said Pakistan sent 300 to 400 drones to 36 locations, from Leh to Sir Creek, on Thursday night, all of which were shot down by the Indian Army.
