India Announces Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty Despite Ceasefire, Pakistan Reopens Airspace

India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire effective from this evening. However, sources from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that despite the ceasefire, the Indus Waters Treaty will remain suspended. The sources clarified that the ceasefire agreement was reached after Pakistan initiated contact with India, with no pre-conditions or post-conditions attached. The Indus Waters Treaty remains in abeyance, and all other measures are also on hold. India's stance on terrorism remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, Pakistan announced on Saturday evening that it is reopening its airspace for all types of traffic, shortly after the ceasefire declaration with India. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) made this announcement as normalcy appears to be returning to the country following the de-escalation of tensions with India. The PAA stated, "All airports in the country are available for normal flight operations. Passengers are requested to contact the relevant airline for the latest schedule of their flights." It further confirmed that Pakistan’s airspace has been fully restored for all types of flights, and all airports are operational for regular flight activities. Due to tensions with India, Pakistan’s airspace had been closed for some time, disrupting regular air traffic and causing inconvenience to passengers.

Earlier this evening, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that a ceasefire has been established between India and Pakistan. Misri stated that both countries have agreed to halt all firing and military actions on land, air, and sea starting at 5 PM. He noted that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon. Misri emphasized that India has agreed to the ceasefire on its own terms, and the DGMOs of both nations will hold further discussions on May 12.
