Talcher bandh observed demanding functioning of the Talcher Medical college

 TALCHER: Normal life in Talcher industrial belt was paralised due to dawn to dusk bandh call given by Talcher Medical Kriyanusthan Committee today.The committee called for the bandh today in protest against the non-implementation of the promise by state government to operationalize hospital and college from October 1st last.They demand immediate functioning of the Pabitra Mohan Medical College and Hospital or otherwise a committee will resort to economic blockade  indefinitely..

Shops and business establishments and vehicular traffic were off the road due to strike.All the educational institutions and government offices were closed today during the strike while NTPC plants functioned normally,the coal production and despatch were affected by the strike.

Report said all the coal mines operating in Talcher functioning from morning to 1pm due to picketing of bandh supporters.They also stopped coal despatch for some time..The committee leaders Digambar Garnaik and Keshav Bhutia described the bandh peaceful and success. In a statement they said people gave spontaneous support to bandh call and observed it.

 

 Talcher industrial belt was paralysed today demanding immediate functioning of Talcher medical college and in a protest against non-implementaion of commitment by the government in this regard.Talcher SDPO,Manas Ranajan Barik said the bandh passed off peacefully and without any untoward incident.There was no case or any arrest during the bandh in Talcher.Coalmines were stopped about half an hour and they resumed the operation thereafter across the Talcher .

He said police had made  arrangements to maintain law and order.

Wayback in 2012 there was an agreement signed  between state government and Mahanadi coalfield Limited  to set up 500-beded Medical college and Hospital at Talcher .Accordingly the construction was started by MCL 2015 and completed in 2018 at the coast of rupees 490 crore.Since then the sprawling building remained in operative on the question of who will run the hospital.The tug of war between the state government and MCL went on years together and finally last year state government agreed to take the administration of the Medical College and Hospital while MCL bear the cost of running of the hospital for five years.Even if after that Medical college and Hospital is still in-operative despite state government has declared to operate hospital from 1st October 2023.
