Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha intensified into extremely severe cyclone with wind speed of around 175 km/h: IMD

New Delhi, May 14:-- The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Mocha intensified into extremely severe cyclone with a wind speed of around 175 Kilometer per hour.

  

The IMD said the cyclone Mocha is lying over east-central Bay of Bengal about 550 Kilometer north-northwest of Port Blair.

  

The Weather agency said it is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts on 14th May, as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 150 to 160 Km/h.

  

In view of changing weather, IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over northeastern states.

  

In its weather bulletin, IMD stated that most places in the state of Tripura and Mizoram, will witness heavy rainfall today and very heavy rainfall on May 14th.

  

It also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur and South Assam tomorrow.

 

On heat warning, the IMD warned another spell of heatwave in central India and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha from 15th May.

  

It said that Northwest India is also likely to witness an increase in the maximum temperature by 3-5 degrees Celcius during the next 3 days.

  

IMD said that in Southern parts of India, the maximum temperature is also likely to rise by 2-4 degrees in the next 5 days.
